1. Hilton Worldwide Environmental Sustainability Policy

To ensure sustainable business practices in the countries in which we operate around the globe, we will:
- Embrace an environmental mission and strategy that encompasses each and every team member
- Focus upon our key environmental commitments: energy efficiency, CO2 reduction, water efficiency, waste reduction, renewable energy, and sustainable buildings and operations which includes building design & construction, hotel & corporate operations, chemical management, and purchasing
- Engage our team members through training, tools and active involvement
- Ensure that environmentally friendly initiatives and tactics will impact the guest experience in a positive way
- Set targets, measure, benchmark and continually improve our performance
- Share best practices and comply with relevant local, national and international legislation
- Liaise with our suppliers and business partners to improve their environmental performance
- Influence land use in harmony with nature and construction by promoting the use of environmental standards
- Support environmental initiatives within the local community
- Communicate our environmental achievements to our team members and guests
- Publish our performance against our established targets

2. Green ROOM AND MEETING Space
|
|
Listed below are some actions that the Waldorf Astoria implements to promote "green room space"
Energy Efficiency
- Staff instructed to shut off HVAC/lights when guest rooms are vacant.
- Staff instructed to shut blinds half way and to keep curtains closed when guestrooms are vacant.
- Offices/Housekeeping/T&E closets have sensor lighting installed.
- Energy efficient lighting installed in specific back of the house areas.
- PM/Midnight shift Electricians and Watch Engineers walk daily throughout the hotel with a checklist ensuring the temperatures in unoccupied meeting rooms are high during the summer months and low during the cooler months and that all lights are off.
- Hotel uses new media and electronic technology to cut down on paper use.
- Hotel promotes the use of conference web site, called POG.
- Hotel can specifically purchase recycled paper for your meeting.
- Hotel's office paper contains 10% post-consumer content.
Air Quality
- The hotel is within walking distance to major city attractions and easily accessible by public transportation.
Water Conservation
- Hotel offers and implements a towel and linen reuse program.
- Hotel's laundry company uses recycled water for bedroom linens and towels.
Waste Minimization
- YTD- we have put 82.60 tons less trash/paper/boxes in our compactor than in 2008. This is a 5% reduction.
- Hotel has implemented a recycling program to recycle glass, aluminum, plastic, paper, grease and cardboard.
- Sample diversion rate of recycling:
- 2/18/09- Cardboard= .60, Room Waste= .59, Commingle= .71, Compactor= 5.95
- Numbers above are in tons.
- "Commingle" waste is glass, plastic & aluminum.
- "Room Waste" is mostly paper products (i.e. newspaper)
- All wet waste is delivered to the Covanta Waste to Energy Facility in Newark, NJ.
- Jem Sanitation (Hotel's sanitation company) does not dump any waste in landfills.
- Cardboard, paper and room waste bales are brought back to Jem's material recovery facility in Lyndhurst, NJ for processing.
- Hotel has a policy in place to reduce and reuse where possible and appropriate, and minimize paper usage.
- Hotel also has an Environmental Committee committed to continue moving in this direction.
- Hotel staff is trained to implement environmental practices.
- Hotel replaces unused amenities only when empty or requested by guest.
Environmental Purchases
- Hotel currently taking steps to purchases bathroom supplies with a minimum of 20% recycled products for hand towels and toilet paper.
- Hotel currently taking steps to purchase environmentally responsible cleaning products for carpets, floors, kitchens and bathrooms with a minimum of 50% of products used to be environmentally responsible.

3. Food and Beverage

Water Conservation
- Hotel has taken initiatives in our kitchens to reduce running water (i.e. to thaw food, rinse food, etc)
Waste Minimization
- Kitchens have a policy in place to reduce and reuse where possible and appropriate, and minimize paper usage.
- Kitchen staff is trained to implement environmental policies.
- Kitchen staffs serve juice, iced tea, coffee and water in pitchers and some condiments in bulk.
- Kitchen uses china and linen service.
- Hotel does NOT use polystyrene or Styrofoam on property.
Environmental Purchases
- Kitchen purchases locally grown and organic foods and products wherever possible and affordable.
- All our food and beverage is purchased in bulk and we work with other Hilton Hotels to purchase from a centralized location, reducing transportation emissions.
